Twitter Rolls Out New Way to Share Tweets to Snapchat

The new Snapchat process is being rolled out Thursday for iOS, with Android to follow soon.

Twitter users can tap the share button on a public tweet (protected tweets cannot be shared) and tap the Snapchat icon.

If the user is signed into the Snapchat application on that device and not in the middle of creating a Snap, Snapchat will open directly to its Camera, and the tweet will appear on top of the Camera as an immovable sticker.

Tapping the screen activates Lens Carousel for Snapchatters who wish to use a lens.

Once a Snap is taken, as a photo or video, the tweet sticker can be pinched to move it or resize it, and other Snapchat creative tools can be incorporated at this point, including Bitmojis, Cameos, captions, filters and stickers.

Tapping the blue send button in the bottom right corner enables users to share with individuals or groups or post to their Snapchat Stories. People will see the tweet as a sticker, and swiping up will take them to Twitter to view the tweet and replies to it.

Tweets will disappear from Snapchat at the same time as the Snap they are included in (24 hours if posted to a Story), and if a tweet is deleted from Twitter after it is shared, Snapchatters will see that this occurred when they swipe up.

This integration marks the first time that a tweet can be shared visually to Snapchat Stories, while still enabling users to access that app’s Camera and full suite of creative tools.

The intergration was facilitated via Snap’s Creative Kit, which eanbles Snapcahtters to share content from third-party apps or websites directly into Snapchat and post those Snaps to Stories. Nearly 150 million Snapchat users are engaging with these integrations every month, and other apps using Creative Kit include Goat, Reddit, Sendit, SoundCloud, Spotify and Yolo.

Twitter will begin testing a similar integration for Instagram Stories with a small group of iOS users in the coming days.
