Facebook Appoints 2 Women to Its Board of Directors
Facebook bolstered the female presence on its board of directors with its appointments of Nancy Killefer and Tracey T. Travis, effective immediately.
Killefer spent three decades with management consulting company McKinsey & Co. before retiring in 2013, working with companies across the consumer, retail, restaurant and technology industries.
She also held various government roles, including with the Department of Treasury (1997 through 2000, assistant secretary for management, chief financial officer and chief operating officer) and the IRS (member of its oversight board from 2000 through 2005, including chair from 2002 through 2004).
She said in a Newsroom post, “I’m excited to join the board of Facebook, a company that is at the center of the biggest debates about technology and society. The next few years are likely to shape the internet for generations to come, and I hope to contribute to Facebook’s efforts to be a responsible force for good in the world.”
Travis is executive vice president and CFO at Estée Lauder, responsible for global finance, accounting, investor relations, information technology, strategy and new business development for the global manufacturer of skin care, makeup, fragrance and hair care products.
She served as senior vp and CFO at Ralph Lauren for seven years prior to joining Estée Lauder in 2012, and she has also worked with Limited Brands, American National Can, PepsiCo/Pepsi Bottling Group and General Motors.
Travis said in the Newsroom post, “I am very optimistic about the power of technology and innovation to change our world for the better. Building community has never been more important and is fundamental to Facebook’s mission. I’m looking forward to working on this with (CEO Mark Zuckerberg, COO Sheryl Sandberg) and the rest of their remarkable team.”
Zuckerberg added, “Nancy brings a great deal of private- and public-sector experience to this position. She’s held a number of senior roles in the U.S. government and was a leader at McKinsey for many years. Tracey has a strong finance and corporate leadership background, not just in her role as CFO at The Estée Lauder Cos., but also serving on the board at Accenture. We have a lot we need to get done in the coming years, and I think their experience is going to be very valuable. They’re both very accomplished business leaders and I’m looking forward to working with them.”
The other members of Facebook’s board of directors are: PayPal senior vice president of core markets Peggy Alford, Andreessen Horowitz co-founder and general partner Marc Andreessen, General Catalyst chairman and managing director Kenneth Chenault, Dropbox co-founder and CEO Drew Houston, Sandberg, Founders Fund co-founder and partner Peter Thiel, Cranemere Group CEO Jeff Zients and Zuckerberg.
